Key changes to the Skilled Labour Immigration Act

The new Skilled Immigration Act, the final phase of which came into force on 1 June 2024, makes it easier for foreign professionals to work in Germany more quickly and with less bureaucracy. Important changes include:

  • Earnings limit for EU Blue Card: The required annual income for the Blue Card has been lowered, making it easier for more qualified professionals to gain access.

  • Introduction of the opportunity card: A new opportunity card based on a points system enables professionals from abroad to come to Germany based on their qualifications, language skills and professional experience.

  • Easier recognition of qualifications: In future, previously required professional qualifications can be offset by proven work experience, which simplifies and speeds up the visa process.
